Brazil’s annual inflation rate edged up to 5.17% in September 2025 from 5.13% in August, slightly below market expectations of 5.22%. The gain was driven by higher costs for housing (6.24% vs 5.03%), clothing (4.93% vs 4.47%), personal expenses (7.10% vs 6.23%), and education (6.19% vs 6.17%). Price growth slowed for food and beverages (6.61% vs 7.42%), household items (1.21% vs 1.42%), transport (3.18% vs 3.31%), healthcare (5.39% vs 5.70%), and communication (1.56% vs 1.69%). Among major metropolitan areas, São Paulo recorded the highest inflation at 5.83% (vs 5.61%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.48%, reversing a 0.11% decline in August.
