Uruguay’s unemployment rate eased to 7.8% in May 2025, down from 9% a year earlier. The labor force participation rate ticked down to 64.4% from 64.6% in April, while the employment rate slipped slightly to 59.4% from 59.5%. By gender, the jobless rate stood at 6.8% for men and 8.9% for women. Among age groups, unemployment was highest among those aged 14 to 24 (25.2%) and lowest among those over 65 (3.6%). The share of workers without social security coverage was 21.6%, while 9.3% of workers were underemployed.
