Uruguay’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.9% in July 2025, down from 8.3% a year earlier, marking the lowest level since December 2017. Nationwide, the activity rate reached 64.2% and the employment rate 59.8%. By gender, unemployment stood at 5.4% for men and 8.6% for women. Among age groups, the highest rate was recorded in the 14–24 segment (23.4%), while those 65 and older had the lowest (2.5%). Regarding employment conditions, 9.1% of workers are underemployed, and 22.4% lack social security registration in their primary job.
