The Chicago Fed National Activity Index (CFNAI) declined to -0.25 in April 2025 from a revised +0.03 in March, indicating a contraction in overall economic activity as three of the four major categories weighed negatively. Production-related indicators contributed -0.18 in April, down from -0.07 the previous month. The sales, orders, and inventories category also dragged the index down with a -0.04 contribution, compared to +0.06 in March. Similarly, the personal consumption and housing category fell to -0.04 from +0.09. Meanwhile, employment-related indicators remained neutral in April, improving from a -0.05 contribution in March.
