Turkey's trade deficit widened to USD 7.7 billion in January 2025 from USD 6.2 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year, preliminary estimates showed. Exports rose by 5.8% year-on-year to USD 21.2 billion in January, while imports increased at a faster pace of 10.2%, reaching USD 28.8 billion. Trade Minister Omer Bolat stated that tariff hikes and retaliatory measures by the U.S. pose risks to global trade, while reaffirming Turkey's commitment to safeguarding its national interests in the face of such actions.
