Taiwan’s trade surplus widened to a three-month high of USD 7.21 billion in April 2025, from USD 6.27 billion in the same month of the previous year, exceeding market expectations of USD 6.38 billion. Exports surged by 29.9% year-on-year to USD 48.66 billion in April, primarily due to higher sales across all major export commodities, namely; information, communication, and audio-video products (60.5%), parts of electronic product (26.8%), chemicals (15.2%), base metals and articles of base metal (7.6%), and machinery (7.1%). Meanwhile, imports soared by 33% from a year ealrier to USD 41.46 billion, mainly driven by increased purchases of information, communication, and audio-video products (228.8%), parts of electronic product (31.6%), and machinery (30.1%). Considering the first four months of the year, the country’s trade surplus was recorded at USD 30.85 billion, a 21.6% higher compared to the previous year, with exports growing 20.6% and imports increasing by 20.4%.
