Retail sales in Switzerland rose by 1.3% year-on-year in April 2025, slowing from a downwardly revised 2.1% growth and coming in below market expectations of a 2.5% increase. This was primarily driven by a deceleration in sales of non-food products (2.2% vs 5.2% in March), particularly information and communication technology equipment (16.5% vs 22.4%). Meanwhile, sales of food, beverages, and tobacco continued to rise (0.5% vs 0.1%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales decreased by 0.3% in April, reversing a downwardly revised 0.2% gain in March.
