Spain's annual inflation rate was at 1.8% in October 2024, up from a 3.5-year low of 1.5% in September and confirming the initial estimate, driven primarily by rising energy costs. Notably, prices for housing and utilities accelerated significantly to 4.2% from 2.9% in September, led by increases in electricity and gas costs (6.1% vs 2.7%). Prices also advanced faster for other CPI items, including alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.6% vs 3.5%); recreation & culture (2% vs 1.1%) and food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.9% vs 1.8%). The annual core rate, excluding volatile items like food and energy, ticked higher to 2.5% in October, up from an over 2-1/2-year low of 2.4% in September, aligning with the preliminary estimate. The EU-harmonised 12-month inflation rose to 1.8% in October, from September's 1.7%, in line with an earlier estimate. Monthly, the CPI rose by 0.6% in October, matching the preliminary reading; and the EU harmonized increased by 0.4%, in line with the earlier estimate.
