The annual inflation rate in Spain fell to 2.3 percent n August 2024, down from 2.8 percent in July and compared with preliminary estimates of 2.2 percent. It was the lowest rate since July 2023, as cost eased for food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.5 percent vs 3.1 percent), restaurant & hotels (4.6 percent vs 4.7 percent), alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.6 percent vs 3.7 percent), clothing & footwear (0.7 percent vs 0.9 percent). In addition, prices fell for transport (-1.3 percent vs 2.4 percent) and communication (-0.3 percent vs -0.2 percent). Meanwhile, inflation was steady for miscellaneous goods & services (3.2 percent), furniture & household equipment (0.5 percent), health (2 percent) and education (2.8 percent). On the other hand, prices accelerated for housing & utilities (4 percent vs 3.2 percent) and recreation & culture (2 percent vs 1.6 percent).
