Slovakia’s consumer confidence indicator dropped to -26.7 in January 2026 from -22.4 in the previous month. This marked the lowest reading since March 2023 and currently 6.6 points below the long-term average, as sentiment deteriorated across all four components of the indicator. Consumers viewed the development of unemployment particularly negatively (31.5 vs 24.5 in December), pointing to rising concerns about job security. They also became more pessimistic about the evolution of their savings (-20.8 vs -16.1). In addition, worries increased about the forthcoming development of the overall economic situation (-42.6 vs -39.5), as well as about their own financial position (-11.7 vs -9.6). Among other indicators, consumers continued to see it as an unfavorable time to make major purchases (-19.7 vs -19.9) and prices are expected to rise further (30.6 vs 27.8).
