The National Bank of Serbia kept its benchmark interest rate at 5.75% during its August 2025 meeting, emphasizing caution amid global uncertainties, particularly trade tensions and geopolitical risks. Serbia’s annual inflation rose to 4.6% in June, the highest in five months, from 3.8% in May, largely due to rising global prices of certain food raw materials, adverse weather conditions, and higher oil prices following the conflict in the Middle East. The NBS expects inflation to hover around the upper bound of its target range through the end of 2025, before gradually easing in 2026. Meanwhile, flash estimates showed GDP grew by 2% in the second quarter, led by services sector, followed by manufacturing industry, where automotive investments are yielding results. The board anticipates accelerated economic activity in the second half of the year, supported by increased automotive production and the implementation of infrastructure projects tied to the "Serbia Expo 2027" program.
