Senegal’s annual inflation rate climbed to 1.8% in July 2025, up from 0.8% in the previous month, marking the highest level since January. The increase was mainly driven by a faster rise in prices for food products and non-alcoholic beverages (2.8% vs 0.6% in June), which saw the fastest increase in six months. Prices also accelerated for housing and utilities (1.1% vs 1.0%) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (8.0% vs 7.7%). Meanwhile, inflation moderated for transport (1.4% vs. 1.6%) and health (1.7% vs. 2.2%), while it declined in clothing and footwear (-0.1% vs. 0.1%). Additionally, prices dropped much less for information and communication (-3.0% vs -4.5%). Excluding energy and fresh products, the core index increased by 4.0% year-on-year, following a 2.8% gain in June. On a monthly basis, consumer prices advanced by 1.1% in July—the highest monthly gain in six months—following a 0.9% rise in June.
