The S&P Global Russia Manufacturing PMI increased to 50.6 in October 2024 from 49.5 in September, signaling a marginal improvement in factory activity after a slight contraction a month earlier. The growth was driven by a softer contraction in output and new orders, with export orders rising the most since January 2008. Although new orders continued to fall, purchasing activity increased despite moderating from a month earlier to its slowest pace in over two years, while delivery times worsened to the smallest extent in three months. Employment advanced marginally after declining in the previous month, while backlogs of work increased. On prices, input cost accelerated amid exchange rate weakness and higher transportation costs. Meanwhile, output cost inflation accelerated to the strongest in a year as manufacturers passed through higher costs to customers. Finally, business sentiment improved to a three-month high amid planned investment in automation and new product development.
