Paraguay recorded a trade deficit of USD 841.1 million through July 2025, shifting from a USD 470.1 million surplus in the same month of the previous year. This marked the largest trade deficit since records began in January 1994, as exports fell while imports rose. Registered exports dropped by 6.7% year-on-year to USD 6.5354 billion, mainly due to a 22.8% decline in primary products, particularly soybeans (-29.9%), sesame seeds (-7.1%), and others (-8.3%). Additionally, fuels and energy decreased 3.8%, but partly offset by gains in agro-industrial goods (8.4%) and industrial manufactures (2.2%). Meanwhile, registered imports increased by 7.3% to USD 9.888 billion, primarily driven by higher purchases of agro-industrial goods (13.3%), industrial manufactures (11.7%), and primary products (11.6%). However, fuel and lubricant imports shrank 20.2%, weighed mainly by decreases in diesel (-21.4%) and gasoline (-23.2%).
