The annual consumer inflation rate in Norway eased to 2.6% in March 2025 from a ten-month high of 3.6% in February, falling below expectations of 2.9%. The slowdown was largely driven by a sharp deceleration in housing and utilities inflation (1.3% vs 5.1%). Price growth also moderated for furnishings, household equipment and maintenance (0.4% vs 1.8%), health (4.8% vs 5%), transport (1.5% vs 1.7%), and restaurants and hotels (3.4% vs 3.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.7%, reversing February’s 1.4% rise and exceeding the forecast 0.5% decline. Meanwhile, the CPI adjusted for tax changes and excluding energy products (CPI-ATE) rose 3.4% year-on-year, matching February’s rate and forecasts, and remaining at its highest level since June 2020. Compared to the prior month, it increased by 0.2%, easing from a 1% rise in February but slightly above the expected 0.1% gain.
