Moldova’s trade deficit widened to a record high of USD 575.5 million in December 2024, up from USD 498.8 million in the same month last year, as exports dropped while imports rose. Year-on-year, exports plunged by 13.3% to USD 269.8 million, weighed down by lower sales to CIS (-34.4%) and EU countries (-21.8), while shipments from other countries increased (13.9%). Meanwhile, imports advanced by 4.3% to USD 845.3 million, driven by higher purchases from EU countries (21.9%), but decreasing from CIS (-24.6%) and other countries (-9.1%). For the whole year of 2024, the country’s trade deficit expanded to USD 5,510.1 million from USD 4,626.8 million in the corresponding period last year.
