Malta’s trade deficit narrowed to EUR 247.7 million in March 2025 from EUR 365 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. Year-on-year, imports plunged by 16.5% to EUR 614.7 million, mainly dragged down by reduced purchases of fuels and lubricants (-54.7%), capital goods and others (-16.6%), and consumer goods (-6.9%). Meanwhile, exports fell at a softer 1% to EUR 367 million, primarily due to lower sales of consumer goods (-13.1%), industrial supplies (-7%), and fuels and lubricants (-0.6%). Considering the January to March period, the country’s trade shortfall decreased to EUR 756.8 million from EUR 867.2 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.
