Lithuania’s trade deficit widened to EUR 0.665 billion in March 2025 from EUR 0.286 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year, marking the largest trade gap since July 2023. Imports rose by 16.8% year-on-year to a two-year high EUR 3.914 billion, mainly boosted by increased purchases of mineral fuels, mineral oils & products of their distillation (39.5%), and ground vehicles (36.6%). Among trading partners, imports increased from Poland (13.1%), Germany (12.4%), and Latvia (8%). Meanwhile, exports increased at a much softer 6% from a year earlier to a six-month high of EUR 3.248 billion, primarily attributed to higher sales of fertilizers (66.6%) and mineral fuels, mineral oils & products of distillation (37%). The top export destinations were Latvia (11.9%), Poland (10.6%), and Germany (8.7%). For the first quarter of the year, the country posted a EUR 1.577 billion deficit, with exports increasing by 1.9% and imports climbing by 9.5%.
