Latvia recorded a trade deficit of EUR 272.2 million in March of 2025, widening slightly from the EUR 251.9 million gap in the corresponding period of the previous year. Imports expanded by 8.1% from the previous year to EUR 1.702 billion, amid a surge in foreign sales of mineral fuels, mineral oils, and the products of their distillation (60.7%) and pharmaceutical products (22.5%), while exports of electrical machinery rose to a softer extent (3.4%). In the meantime, exports to the US surged by 25% to EUR 62.3 million as firms front-ran their sales amid tariff threats from the White House. In turn, imports also rose by 8.1% to EUR 1.974 billion, led by purchases of vehicles (41.9%) and mineral fuels (37.5%). Imports from the US plunge by 30.4% to EUR 23.8 million, mostly due to a drop in the imports of vehicles.
