Japan’s leading economic index, which gauges the outlook for the coming months based on indicators such as job offers and consumer sentiment, was revised slightly lower to 109.8 in October 2025 from preliminary estimates of 110.0. However, the latest reading remained above a final of 108.2 in September, the highest since June 2024, supported by consumer confidence, which rose to its highest level in 19 months in October. Employment reached a record high, despite the unemployment rate remaining steady at 2.6% in September. Meanwhile, cost pressures are expected to persist heading into year-end. However, overall consumption remains in a recovery phase.
