Annual inflation rate in France edged up to 1.2% in October 2024 from 1.1% in September which was the lowest since March 2021, and above forecasts of 1.1%, preliminary estimates showed. Prices increased faster for food (0.6% vs 0.5%), mostly fresh products (4.5% vs 2.6%). Also, prices declined less for energy (-2% vs -3.3%) and manufactured products (-0.2% vs -0.3%). Meanwhile, cost of tobacco went up 8.7%, the same as in the previous month and services inflation eased to 2.2% from 2.4%. Compared to the previous month, the CPI went up 0.2%, rebounding from a 1.2% fall in September, mainly due to petroleum and gas products, clothing and footwear, transport and prices of food in particular fresh products. Tobacco prices were stable. The EU-harmonised annual inflation rate went up to 1.5% from 1.4% which was the lowest since March 2021 and in line with forecasts. The harmonised CPI went up 0.3% following a 1.3% fall.
