The annual inflation rate in France accelerated to 1.2% in September 2025 from 0.9% in August, its highest level since January but slightly below the expected 1.3%, preliminary estimates showed. The pickup was largely driven by higher services inflation (2.4% vs 2.1% in August), reflecting a smaller decline in communication costs and rising health service prices. Energy costs also fell at a slower pace (-4.5% vs -6.2%) due to a base effect from petroleum products, while food (1.7% vs 1.6%) and tobacco (4.1% vs 4.0%) saw slight accelerations. In contrast, manufactured goods prices declined marginally faster (-0.4% vs -0.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 1% after a 0.4% rise in August, the sharpest fall since September 2024, mainly reflecting seasonal declines in transport, particularly airfares, and accommodation services. Meanwhile, the harmonized inflation rate quickened to 1.1% from 0.8% year-on-year, while prices fell 1.1% month-on-month after a 0.5% increase.
