Consumer prices in Fiji rose by 0.1% year-on-year in May 2025, reversing a 0.9% drop in the previous month, which had marked the sharpest annual price decline in nearly four years. The increase was driven by higher prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.7% vs 3.9% in April), education (0.5% vs 0.5%), furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance (0.4% vs 0.4%), as well as miscellaneous goods and services (8.8% vs 9.6%). Additionally, food prices fell more modestly (-1.5%) after shrinking at the fastest pace since June 2020 (-4.3%) in April. Prices for clothing and footwear (-0.7% vs -1.5%) and recreation (-0.6% vs -0.7%) also declined at a softer rate. Meanwhile, housing prices (-1.2% vs -0.8%) and transport (-3.5% vs -2.7%) fell at a faster pace. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.8% in May, following a 0.6% decline in April.
