The Canadian GDP increased by 0.1% from the previous month in March 2025, according to advance estimates, with gains in mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction, retail trade and transportation and warehousing offset by declines in manufacturing and wholesale trade. If confirmed, this would suggest a 0.4% expansion in the first quarter of 2025. In turn, GDP contracted by 0.2% from the previous month in February 2025, partly offsetting January’s 0.4% increase. Goods-producing industries fell by 0.6% amid a 2.5% contraction in mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction and a 0.5% slide in construction. Services-producing industries edged down 0.1%, with transportation and warehousing and real estate and rental and leasing contracting, partially offset by a 0.7% rise in finance and insurance.
