Austria recorded a trade deficit of EUR 0.19 billion in November 2024, shifting from a EUR 1.94 billion surplus in the same month last year, as exports dropped more than imports. Year-on-year, exports plunged by 14.7% to EUR 16.32 billion, weighed down by lower sales for chemical products (-40.5%) and machinery and vehicles (-9.7%). Exports declined from the EU (-18.1%) and non-EU countries (-6.6%). Meanwhile, imports fell at a softer 3.9% to EUR 16.51 billion, primarily due to reduced purchases of chemical products (-11.8%) and fuels and energy (-21.7%). Imports decreased to both EU (-2.1%) and non-EU countries (-7.1%). Considering the January to November period, the country posted a trade surplus of EUR 3.06 billion, as imports (-7.6%) decreased faster than exports (-4.8%).
