Australia's trade surplus on goods stood at AUD 5.64 billion in August 2024, virtually unchanged from a downwardly revised figure in July, but exceeded market expectations for a gain of AUD 5.5 billion. It was the largest trade surplus since April despite slight declines in both exports and imports. Shipments fell 0.2% from a month earlier to AUD 43.23 billion due to other rural, with outbound shipments declining to Malaysia (-15.1%) and South Korea (-4.3%). Purchases also dropped 0.2% to a four-month low of AUD 37.58 billion, mainly weighed by non-industrial transport equipment.
