Albania’s trade deficit widened to ALL 43 billion in April 2025, up from ALL 41 billion in the same month last year. Exports fell by 4.1% year-on-year to ALL 33 billion, mainly driven by lower sales of construction materials and metals (-6.1%), textiles and footwear (-1.3%), and chemical and plastic products (-0.8%). Among trading partners, the steepest declines in exports were recorded with China (-32.8%), Spain (-27.1%), and Italy (-7.7%). Meanwhile, imports increased by 0.4% to ALL 76 billion, primarily due to higher purchases of chemical and plastic products (+0.5%) and wood manufacture and articles of paper (+0.5%). The most notable increases in imports came from China (11.1%) and North Macedonia (18.9%). For the January–April 2025, the trade deficit stood at ALL 144 billion, with exports rose by 2.3% year-on-year, while imports declined by 2.5%.
